Maldivian launched the first nonstop Australia–Maldives service, operating a weekly Male–Melbourne flight with A330 equipment.1 Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said the route removed the need to transit via Asian or Middle Eastern hubs and cut up to nine to 10 hours from the journey, adding South Asia capacity from Melbourne was up 53% versus pre-pandemic levels.2
