Malaysia Airlines announces senior management appointments; mgt structure of new short-haul airline

Malaysia Airlines announced (31-Jan-2012) two appointments to its senior management team and the management structure of its new short-haul airline, which will commence operations by 2Q2012. Details include:

  • MAE CEO: Azhari Mohd Dahlan joins MAS Aerospace Engineering (MAE) as CEO effective 01-Feb-2012. He re-joins the Malaysia Airlines Group (previous career was from 1981-1995) following his earlier appointments in AirAsia Berhad and Transmile Engineering;
  • New head of human capital: The current head of human capital, Raja Azura Raja Mahayuddin, will be leaving Malaysia Airlines by mid Feb-2012. She will be succeeded by Puan Zahrah Zaid, who will take on the position of executive VP human capital effective 08-Feb-2012;
  • Short-haul airline organisation structure unveiled: Malaysia Airlines announced the organisation structure of its new unit to manage the short-haul airline operations outlined in its Business Plan revealed in Dec-2011. The new airline will operate the entire narrowbody fleet and short-haul routes of Malaysia Airlines, as well as the Firefly ATR turboprop business. The working target is to have the short-haul operation launched by 2Q2012. The new airline will be led by Mohammed Rashdan Yusof as CEO Short Haul while overall operations will be managed by Ignatius Ong Ming Choy as COO Short Haul.
