London Gatwick Airport Sep-2012 pax growth returns to historic growth rate of 2.4%

UK's London Gatwick Airport CFO Nick Dunn stated the increase in late Aug-2012 bookings post the London Olympic Games continued into Sep-2012 and saw the airport return to the historic growth rate of 2.4% year-on-year for this time of the year. The airport also attributed new Asian carriers operating to Beijing, Seoul and Vietnam for contributing over 20% to its Sep-2012 traffic. Details of the airport's Sep-2012 traffic are as follows:

  • Passenger numbers: 3.4 million, +2.4% year-on-year;
    • UK and Channel Islands: 340,600, -0.1%;
    • Ireland: 107,900, +3.8%;
    • European scheduled: 1.9 million, +7.1%;
    • North Atlantic: 168,400, -10.3%;
    • Other long-haul: 370,400, +12.8%;
  • Cargo volume: 7814 tonnes, +9.5%;
