London Gatwick Airport pax up 4%, cargo up 19% in Nov-2012; more new destinations to come

UK's London Gatwick Airport passenger numbers up 4% - traffic highlights for Oct-2012:

  • Passenger numbers: 2.2 million, +4.2% year-on-year;
    • UK and Channel Islands: 324,10, +7.5%;
    • Ireland: 101,300, -3.2%;
    • European scheduled: 1.1 million, +2.8%;
    • European charter: 129,200, +3.9%;
    • North Atlantic: 121,800, -5.1%;
    • Other long-haul: 406,800, +11%;
  • Cargo volume: 8930 tonnes, +18.7%;

The airport reported long-haul carriers increasing London's connectivity to key business growth markets in Beijing, Seoul and Vietnam contributed more than 24,000 passengers of the Nov-2012 traffic increase. CFO Nick Dunn said, "We continued to see growth in November at a rate of 4.2% with an additional 89,000 passengers flying from Gatwick compared with last November," adding, "We look forward to the spring, when passengers will have even more choice of where to fly from Gatwick, including new destinations with Norwegian Air, British Airways, Vueling and - significantly - easyJet's new route to Moscow."
