Japanese carriers report passenger and cargo traffic fell sharply in 2009

Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism reports (15-Mar-2010) the following traffic highlights for the 12 months ended 31-Dec-2009 for all the Japanese carriers:
  • Domestic routes:
    • Passenger numbers: 83.9 million, -9.6% year-on-year;
    • RPK: -9.2%;
    • ASK: -4.3%;
    • Passenger load factor: 61.3%, -3.3 ppts;
    • Cargo volume: 940,699 tonnes, -6.0%;
    • Passenger numbers for the top 5 city pair:
  • International routes:
    • Passenger numbers: 15.4 million, -6.3% year-on-year;
    • RPK: -7.7%;
    • ASK: -10.1%;
    • Passenger load factor: 69.6%, +1.8 ppts;
    • Cargo volume: 1.2 million tonnes, -10.9%;
    • Passenger numbers by routes:
      • China: 3.1 million, -1.9%;
      • Korea: 2.3 million, -3.1%;
      • Others Asia: 4.7 million, -3.3%;
      • US continent: 1.6 million, -9.4%;
      • Pacific (Hawaii and Guam): 2.0 million, -5.2%;
      • Europe: 1.5 million, -4.9%;
      • Oceania: 259,500, -14.3%.
