IATA estimates impact of COVID-19 in Latin America's major markets

IATA regional VP Americas Peter Cerda outlined (01-Apr-2020) the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Latin American countries as follows:

  • Brazil:
    • Revenue loss: USD7.7 billion;
    • GDP risk: USD1.7 billion (USD4.6 billion indirect);
    • Jobs at risk: 62,000 (223,000 indirect);
  • Mexico:
    • Revenue loss: USD5.3 billion;
    • GDP risk: USD3.9 billion (USD8.9 billion indirect);
    • Jobs at risk: 97,000 (437,000 indirect);
  • Argentina:
    • Revenue loss: USD2.4 billion;
    • GDP risk: USD1.2 billion;
    • Jobs at risk: 15,000;
  • Colombia:
    • Revenue loss: USD1.85 billion;
    • GDP risk: USD403 million (USD2.55 billion indirect);
    • Jobs at risk: 13,000 (105,000 indirect);
  • Chile:
    • Revenue loss: USD1.85 billion;
    • GDP risk: USD846 million (USD1.5 billion indirect);
    • Jobs at risk: 11,000 (47,000 indirect);
  • Peru:
    • Revenue loss: USD1.3 billion;
    • GDP risk: USD258 million (USD1.5 billion indirect);
