Heathrow's third-runway loss is Middle East's gain: Walsh

British Airways CEO, Willie Walsh, commented that Emirates is a "rational commercial carrier" but agreed with comments made at IATA's recent conference that "three hubs in such a small area may be reduced to two in the future" (Odyssey Media Group, 17-Jun-2010). Mr Walsh said the decision to block the third runway at London Heathrow Airport will provide opportunities for the Middle East to further position itself as an international hub. However, the CEO stated he does not plan to "'waste time and energy" lobbying for the runway.
