Fiji Airways previously created a dedicated ESG function and operated its first flight fuelled by sustainable aviation fuel from Singapore, alongside reporting “highest ever” earnings in 2023.1 It also partnered with The Fiji Sugar Corporation and Lee Enterprises Consulting, funded by Asian Development Bank, to study the feasibility of producing SAF in Fiji using sugar cane and waste feedstocks such as molasses and bagasse.2 Fiji’s Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said Pacific Island countries were exempt from ICAO’s market-based measure but could volunteer to participate, with Fiji aligning emissions management to its ICAO State Action Plan.3
