Emirates to face more government reluctance for traffic rights: KLM

KLM CEO, Peter Hartman, stated he expects Emirates will face "more and more reluctance [from governments] to grant traffic rights", with international governments likely to become increasingly unwilling to accommodate the next phase of the carrier's expansion (Dow Jones, 24-Jun-2010). Mr Hartman said Emirates faces intensifying competition in key markets, such as India, as local carriers improved their competitive position, with the expansion to "eat more into the smaller carriers more than the larger carriers".
