Emirates restates it is not subsidised by government

Emirates President Tim Clark challenged Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper to produce "one shred of evidence" to substantiate claims that the airline is subsidised by the UAE Government (The National, 10-Jan-2011). Mr Clark stated the Canadian Government was perpetuating a "'Groundhog Day' cycle of myths and misrepresentations" about the carrier.

Emirates: "We have stated on many occasions that Emirates is not subsidised in any way, shape or form by the Dubai government. It never has been and never will be. Our financial statements audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the world's largest accounting firm, confirm that there is no evidence of subsidisation whatsoever. These accounts have been made freely available to the public through Emirates' website and they clearly demonstrate that we do not receive any direct or indirect subsidies," Tim Clark, President.
