Dubai World Central Al Maktoum Airport records 'major surge' in pax and cargo traffic in 2Q2014

UAE's Dubai World Central Al Maktoum International Airport stated (07-Aug-2014) passenger and cargo traffic registered a major surge in 2Q2014 following the temporary shift of an estimated 600 services per week from Dubai International Airport during a major runway upgrade project that concluded on 20-July-2014 and the permanent relocation of all cargo freighter operations. The airport handled 475,992 passengers, compared to 102,137 passengers in 1Q2014. Cargo traffic also increased by triple-digits, reaching 199,751 tonnes in 2Q2014 compared to 48,955 tonnes in 2Q2013.
