Zurich Airport report Dec-2009 traffic statistics

During December 2009 1'726'373 passengers were handled at Zurich Airport, a gain of 7.2% versus December 2008. For the full year 2009, passenger figures decreased by 0.8% to 21'926'872. In 2009, SWISS transported 418'000 more passengers, whereof 403'000 additional transfer passengers, resulting in a market share rise of 2 percentage points to 59%. Emirates added 67'000 passengers, followed by easyJet (+66'000) and Aer Lingus (+60'000). Transfer passengers are up by 8.1% to 673'752 in December. The 3.2% year to date increase to 8'008'278 transfer passengers points out a further strengthening of Zurich's hub function. The transfer rate which was at 38.8% in December 2008 and 35.2% for the full year 2008, is currently at 39.1% in December 2009 and at 36.6% for the full year 2009. O/D or local passengers (originating or departing from Zurich) have increased by 6.5% to 1'045'798 versus previous December. For the full year 2009 O/D passengers have fallen by 3.0% to 13'833'504. The highest YTD contribution was brought along by Emirates (+28.7%).
