Brussels Airport announces Oct-2012 pax

Belgium's Brussels Airport passenger numbers down 2% - traffic highlights for Oct-2012:

  • Passenger numbers: 1.6 million, -1.6% year-on-year;
  • Cargo volume: 36,346 tons, -12.9%;
  • Aircraft movements: 19,907, -3.5%. [more - original PR]

The airport attributes the slight decline in passenger traffic to the rationalisation on the intra-European network operated by Brussels Airlines, the "slightly disappointing" traffic figures during the autumn mid-term holidays and the impact of Hurricane Sandy, which caused 18 trans-Atlantic flights to be cancelled. Contrary to the downward trend, however, the airport reported a general growth in intercontinental traffic, especially on the routes operated by Brussels Airlines and other Star Alliance carriers. The LCC segment too continues to grow strongly.
