Brussels Airlines is a Belgian full-service carrier based at Brussels Airport. The airline provides service to destinations across Europe, North America, the Middle East and to Africa. Deutsche Lufthansa exercised a call option in 2016 to acquire the remaining 55% stake in Brussels Airlines from SN Airholdings. The transaction was completed on 09-Jan-2017, allowing Brussels Airlines to become a part of the German airline group. Deutsche Lufthansa AG plans to integrate Brussels Airlines within the Eurowings Group as part of its hybrid hub model. Brussels Airlines will continue to offer both short-haul and long-haul services, with a diversified tariff structure for the different target groups. The carrier utilises a mixed fleet of narrow/wide-body and regional aircraft. Brussels Airlines joined the Star Alliance in Dec-2009.
On 12-Sep-2017, the Belgian Competition Authority approved the integration of Thomas Cook Airline Belgium (TCAB) assets into Brussels Airlines. Under the partnership agreement, Thomas Cook transferred 160 crew members, airport slots and two A320 aircraft of TCAB into Brussels Airlines - establishing Brussels Airlines as a leading airline partner for the Thomas Cook Group. The remaining three A320s in the TCAB fleet were absorbed by Thomas Cook Group. Brussels Airlines and TCAB executed the integration following the cessation of Thomas Cook Airline Belgium operations on 27-Oct-2017.
