Brussels Airlines to reduce workforce by 25% and remove 16 aircraft from fleet

Brussels Airlines announced (12-May-2020) details of its turnaround plan to reduce costs and maintain operations despite the impact of coronavirus on air travel demand. The airline plans to reduce its workforce by 25%, reduce its fleet from 54 to 38 aircraft and suspend services on unprofitable and marginally profitable routes. Brussels Airlines CEO Dieter Vranckx stated: "This unprecedented crisis has worsened our financial situation obliging us to take substantial and indispensable measures", adding: "the restructuring is urgently needed in order to survive the current crisis and to become structurally competitive in the future".
