Brisbane Airport Sep-2012 traffic driven by sporting events
Australia's Brisbane Airport reported (16-Oct-2012) a 2.2% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers to 1.9 million in Sep-2012 citing major sporting events for contributing "a boost to domestic traffic volumes through the airport." The location of major sporting events also affected Australian outbound travel patterns, with Brisbane Airport experiencing a 5% decline in Australian departures. The airport however reported an 8.2% increase in arrivals from New Zealand, with the Rugby World Cup having a 'stay-at-home' effect last year. Other nationalities contributing to the strong growth in total visitors to Brisbane in Sep-2012 included China (+31.1%), the US (+20.6%) and France (+25.7%). Details include:
- Passenger numbers: 1.9 million, +2.2% year-on-year;
