Brisbane Airport pax up 3% in Aug-2012
Australia's Brisbane Airport reported (24-Sep-2012) a 2.7% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers to 1.8 million in Aug-2012, attributable to increases in passengers from the UAE (+71%), Russia (+152%), Eastern Europe (+36%), South/Central America (+53%) and Africa (+24%). In contrast to recent trends, the Japanese and South Korean visitor markets also showed growth for the month, with August being a peak holiday period (Obon) for the Japanese, and following the conclusion of World Expo in South Korea. Looking ahead, Brisbane Airport welcomes the introduction of several international capacity increases including China Southern Airlines offering daily services to Brisbane from mid Dec-2012 to the end of Feb-2013, and Etihad adding four weekly services to offer a daily flight to Abu Dhabi from Feb-2013. Details include:
- Passenger numbers: 1.8 million, +2.8% year-on-year;
- Domestic: 1.5 million, +4.1%;
