Body scanner trials to begin at Heathrow next month

BAA is preparing to commence a trial of body scanners in each of London Heathrow Airport's five terminals in early Feb-2010 (The Guardian, 25-Jan-2010). The trials will involve "backscatter" and "millimetre wave" technology. If the trials are successful, body scanners could be rolled out across all UK airports. The UK last week raised its terrorism threat level to the second highest level of severity, meaning an attack is "highly likely", although not considered imminent.
