Avianca Brazil receives approval to offer inflight internet service

Avianca Brazil announced (21-Sep-2016) it is the first carrier in South America to offer inflight internet service. The service is provided by Global Eagle Entertainment. The carrier received approval from Brazil ANAC on 19-Sep-2016 to offer the service via satellite, following approval in Jul-2016 for the installation of the antennae on its fleet. The service will be offered free of charge during the first three months. The carrier commenced the project to offer inflight internet in Dec-2014 and expects to conclude fleet-wide deployment of the technology in Dec-2017. As previously reported by CAPA, Gol Linhas Aereas is installing Gogo 2Ku antennae throughout its fleet, commencing installation works on the second aircraft, at Gol's MRO facility in Belo Horizonte Tancredo Neves International Airport.
