ATCEUC and ETF cautions against CANSO coordination with A4E on ATM industrial action

Air Traffic Controllers European Unions Coordination (ATCEUC) and the European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF) responded (15-Feb-2017) to CANSO planning to coordinate with Airlines For Europe (A4E) on European ATM industrial action. ATCEUC and ETF warned support of A4E's approaches to minimising ATCO impacts is, "A little naive and a short-sighted", and the, "Wrong direction for the future of European ATM". A4E called for a range of contingency plans at a regulatory level to alleviate the impact of ATC strikes, including implementation of a 72 hour notification minimum for participation in a strike. ETF ATM chair Charles-Andre Quesnel commented, "National interest should not be guided by an airline association whose sole aim is to increase the profits of its members", while ATCEUC and ETF stated such contingency plans are a responsibility of member states, ANSPs and trade unions.
