American Express Global Business Travel: Premium economy accounts for 1% of all capacity in Asia Pac

American Express Global Business Travel MD APAC David Reimer, speaking at the CAPA Australia Pacific Aviation Summit, stated (05-Aug-2016) premium economy accounts for 1% of all capacity in the Asia Pacific region. He explained that if the premium economy "availability is there, customers will use it", and that at this point, demand is largely growing in line with availability. He noted that the two largest points of sale for premium economy in the Asia Pacific region is out of Hong Kong and Australia with Cathay Pacific, Qantas and ANA being the largest operators in this space. Mr Reimer explained that if the premium economy offering growth, there is a market for the product, while acknowledging that the risk for airlines is in premium passengers downgrading from business class.
