Airways NZ: New Zealand's airspace seeing busiest summer on record

Airways New Zealand announced (17-Jan-2017) air traffic volumes in New Zealand's airspace increased 11% year-on-year for the summer 2016/17 period. Aircraft movements also increased 9%, adding 315 more jet movements weekly. Airways NZ noted 57% of total flights are being operated to/from Auckland International Airport. Airways CEO Ed Sims said, "Jet aircraft movements haven't reached these levels since 2008, ahead of the worst impacts of the global financial crisis, adding, "Airlines have progressively consolidated their fleets to larger aircraft meaning there are now more passengers and goods being transported throughout our airspace than ever before".
