Air New Zealand pax increase but LF decline in Dec-2016. Y-T-D RASK decline

Air New Zealand passengers up 5% - traffic highlights in Dec-2016:

  • Passengers: 1.6 million, +5.4% year-on-year;
    • Short-haul: 1.4 million, +6.1%;
      • Domestic: 1.0 million, +8.3%;
      • Tasman/Pacific: 358,000, +0.3%;
    • Long-haul: 212,000, +1.0%;
  • Passenger load factor: 83.5%, -1.5 ppt;
    • Short-haul: 79.8%, -1.7 ppt;
      • Domestic: 82.6%, +0.1 ppt;
      • Tasman/Pacific: 78.4%, -2.7 ppts;
    • Long-haul: 86.4%, -1.2 ppt;

Air New Zealand: “For the financial year to date, Short Haul passenger revenue per ASK (RASK)* decreased 6.3% while Long Haul RASK* decreased 14.3%. Removing the impact of foreign exchange, Group-wide RASK* decreased 9.3%, and Group-wide yields for the financial year to date decreased 7.9% on the same period last year.” Source: Company statement, 25-Jan-2017.
