The European Commission said EES became operational on 12-Oct-2025 with a phased six month rollout, reaching full operation across all external border points on 10-Apr-20261. ACI EUROPE previously warned border processing times rose by up to 70% and peak waits reached three hours, citing outages, kiosk and e-gate limitations, and insufficient border guards2. Brussels Airport reported 600 passengers missed flights and 21 hours of cumulative delays, supporting a Belgian decision to postpone biometric registration3.
