Sep-2016 The Deputy Minister for Finance and Investment at the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan, has stated that talks with Japan's Mitsubishi and Brazil's Embraer have begun; following the issuance of OFAC license for purchase from Boeing and Airbus.

In an interview with MRUD News on September 25, Kashan stated that talks to purchase small aircrafts from Mitsubishi and Embraer, similar to those manufactured by ATR, are in their first stages.

Embraer representatives spent three days in Tehran, holding talks with various airlines. During this period, flight and technical training, as well as talks about financing were carried out. Furthermore, the Embraer aircraft did two trial flights over the Caspian Sea and Damavand Mountain.

If a deal is reached with Embraer and Mitsubishi, Iran Aseman Airlines will partner with these companies and operate flights.

"A deal with ATR has the same terms as any deal we reach with Airbus because Airbus holds 50% of the shares in ATR", stated Kashan with regards to the outcome of talks with ATR.

Furthermore, an ATR-72, the short-range model selected for purchase, did trial flights on September 23-24 to evaluate its technical and operational capabilities. These aircrafts will be used by Iran Air to increase the number of domestic flights and extend Iran Air's destinations network to smaller cities.
