Non-essential travel extended to Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe

The Government approved an amendment to the rules applicable to air traffic in the context of the measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, extending the possibility of carrying out non-essential trips to our country to travellers from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe.

This change, set in Decision No. 3143-C/2022, of March 14th, of the governmental areas of Economy and Digital Transition, Foreign Affairs, National Defence, Home Affairs, Health and Infrastructures and Housing, is now published in Diário da República and is part of the path of progressive flexibilization of the rules in pandemic context that the Government has been adopting.

The provisions relating to essential trips, that is, those carried out for professional, study or family reasons, as well as health or humanitarian reasons, remain unchanged.

The rules previously established for entry into mainland Portugal regarding the presentation of COVID-19 vaccination or recovery certificates and testing for the SARS-CoV-2 virus also remain in force: passengers who do not have an EU COVID Digital Certificate or another certificate recognized under the terms of the law must, at the time of departure, provide proof of a nucleic acid amplification test or a rapid antigen test for professional use with a negative result, carried out within 72 or 24 hours prior to the time of departure, respectively. The airlines are responsible for verifying them.
