The latest Monthly Regional Tourism Estimates released by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) today show that tourism expenditure grew in all regions over the year to April 2017.

The fastest growing region was West Coast, which increased 12 per cent over the year to April 2017 to $524 million, followed by Nelson (up 10 per cent to $346 million) and Tasman (up 10 per cent to $307 million).

After the earthquakes last November, North Canterbury's spending for the month of April has now returned to the same level as April 2016. However, spending for North Canterbury is still down year ending April 2017 compared with the previous year.

United States visitor spending again continued its strong upward trend, up 23 per cent over the year to April 2017.
