Always wanted to see a Kiwi in the wild, go blackwater rafting or hit the slopes with the family? Why wait?

Tourism New Zealand launched a new campaign today to inspire Kiwis to get out and do something new.

"Now is the perfect time for Kiwis to make their 'NZ must do' bucket list item a reality. We've all got things we've always wanted to see and do. This campaign shares those moments and gets people thinking, why wait?" says Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive Stephen England-Hall.

The Tourism sector took a massive hit following Covid-19. It's now getting back up and running with many having opened their doors ready to welcome Kiwis.

'Do Something New, New Zealand' is part of an ongoing stream of work from Tourism New Zealand that encourages domestic tourism. It will continue across the year with the aim of helping drive demand to our tourism sector right across New Zealand.

Tourism New Zealand is playing an important role in supporting the country's economic recovery by helping restart the tourism sector. The work is focused on encouraging domestic tourism and providing new tools data and insights to the sector along with business support services.

Additional information

The campaign will run on social media, on demand streaming services and traditional media websites.

It follows a social media campaign by TNZ encouraging Kiwis to travel safely as the country transitioned to Alert Level 2 last week.

Before COVID-19, domestic tourism accounted for 60% of tourism's $40.9 billion contribution to the New Zealand economy.

New Zealanders previously spent $9 billion on overseas travel per year.

Capturing a portion of this spend domestically while our borders are closed will be critical to the sector's recovery.
