AirAsia X Introduces Check-In Kiosks at Gold Coast Airport

Direct News Source

16-Aug-2017 AirAsia X, the long haul affiliate of AirAsia Group has introduced check-in kiosks at Gold Coast Airport as part of the airline's continuous quest for innovation to enhance the guest experience.

As part of Gold Coast Airport's roll out of Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS), allowing travellers to check themselves in and tag and drop their own bags, facilitating faster passenger processing and reducing queuing and congestion - Gold Coast Airport has been selected to be the first station in Australia by the airline to implement self check-in kiosks for a faster and more convenient way to check-in. The next stations to be equipped with kiosk facilities are Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
All AirAsia X guests travelling from Gold Coast Airport are required to use the kiosks for check-in, printing of boarding passes and self-tagging of baggage before proceeding to the baggage drop counter. This also applies to guests who have completed the web or mobile app check-in process, and for premium flatbed guests.
In addition, guests flying to Kuala Lumpur and beyond with multiple destinations under the same booking number will be issued another boarding pass for the end destination. Guests with multiple booking numbers may repeat the check-in kiosk process for each booking number.
Guests are advised to arrive 3 hours before departure to allow plenty of time for first-time use of the check-in kiosks. Passengers that require additional assistance such as group bookings or passengers with reduced mobility or special needs may proceed to the service counter for assistance.
Benyamin Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia X Berhad says, "Our aim is to make flying easier, comfortable and more enjoyable for our guests. This major initiative is part of our ongoing mission to continuously innovate with technology and practice cost efficiency. By adopting a cost-effective service and liberating the travel experience, we can prevent airport congestion and long queues and reduce waiting time. We are pleased to offer this simple and quick check-in service for our guests. We believe our amazing low fares and innovative services have an edge over our competitors and encourage more travellers to fly with us."
AirAsia X would also like to remind guests about carry-on luggage requirements to ensure quick, comfortable boarding and sufficient storage onboard for everyone. Guests are allowed only one carry-on bag measuring 56 x 36 x 23cm (including handles and wheels) plus one small bag, such as a laptop bag or handbag, measuring 40 x 30 x 10cm. The total permitted weight for the two pieces must not exceed 7kg. Multiple items that are strapped, wrapped or tied together will not be counted as one piece of carry-on baggage.
Guests with carry-on baggage that is overweight, oversized or exceed the allowed quantity will be charged excess baggage fees on a per kilogram basis or gate baggage fees. We encourage guests to pre-book checked baggage allowance online when booking their flight or through Manage My Booking.
Since its first flight in November 2007, AirAsia X has flown more than 1.6 million passengers between Kuala Lumpur and the Gold Coast. The airline was the first low cost long haul airline to fly between Malaysia and Australia and introduce innovations such as premium flatbeds and a Quiet Zone, reserved for passengers aged over 10 years of age.
AirAsia X has 11 frequencies weekly between the Gold Coast and Kuala Lumpur and a daily service between the Gold Coast and Auckland, New Zealand.
