About
New Bintan Airport is a proposed development project located on Bintan Island, Indonesia, off Singapore. The project's first phase will include the development of one runway and one terminal to accommodate initial traffic. Bintan Airport has enough land to develop into a multi terminal airport with two runways.
The airport terminal will be connected to a ferry terminal which will service Singapore and Batam.
The airport is a partnership between Sriwijaya Air and Gallant Venture and the hub is aimed at strengthening it's network development, with a potential to connect East Indonesia and West Indonesia, and become the meeting point for its international flights to Europe and the Far East. Bintan Resort Cakrawala's parent company Gallant Venture will provide USD150 million to fund construction.
Jan-2022. Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi reported the ministry is encouraging the completion of New Bintan (Singapore) Airport in 2023. Construction commenced in 2015, with phase one currently entering soil compaction for the airport's 3000m runway.
Sep-2017. PT Angkasa Pura II will operate New Bintan Airport upon completion in 2019. The USD150 million project is expected to commence operation in 2020 with a 3000m runway. Construction is reportedly 30% complete.
Jul-2017. Sriwijaya Air and Bintan Resort Cakrawala plan to develop a new airport serving the Lagoi area of Bintan Island by 2019. Land preparation, runway and terminal works are now underway. Bintan Resort Cakrawala's parent company Gallant Venture will provide USD150 million to fund construction. The parties also aim to construct a second runway and open an aviation training facility at the airport in 2025.
Mar-2017. PT Bintan Aviation Investments MD Michael BK Budy reported the New Bintan Airport development project is 85% complete. The airport is scheduled to commence operation in late 2018 and will feature a 3000m runway with terminal capacity for one million passengers p/a and an MRO centre.
Sep-2016. Bintan Resorts International completed 15% of works on new Bintan Airport’s development project. The 1000ha airport is expected to accommodate charter services on a 2500m runway.
Jul-2015. Bintan International Airport "is projected to open by 2017", according to Bintan Regent Ansar Ahmad. PT Bintan Resort Cakrawala general manager Abdul Wahab reaffirmed: "Currently, contruction progress is at around 15 percent completion and we plan to complete the project by 2017." The new airport is expected to feature a 3000m runway and will have a capacity to accommodate 3.5 million passengers p/a.
Feb-2014. The new Bintan (Singapore) Airport will be operational by 2016 with a 3000m runway and capacity to accommodate 3.5 million passengers annually. Gallant Venture and Garuda Indonesia signed a MoU to develop Bintan island into a tourism and aviation hub and will jointly develop the airport as the carrier’s new hub with a centre for aircraft maintenance. Garuda Indonesia also agreed to promote Bintan as an international tourism destination as well as developing the island's outbound and inbound connectivity.
