About

Nawanwan Airport is a proposed airport to serve the city of Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. Since 1945, the district administration and government have planned to construct a new airport in the Jharkhand city. This latest attempt is part of an Airports Authority of India initiative to construct new airports to support low-cost demand in the country.


Apr-2021. Jharkhand will record the opening of Hazaribagh Nawanwan Airport in 2024 under India's regional connectivity scheme (UDAN).

Apr-2019. India's Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha reported the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) aims to complete development of and commission Hazaribagh Nawanwan Airport within the next two years.

Mar-2019. India's Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha stated he attended the ground breaking ceremony for the Hazaribagh Nawanwan Airport development project. The project will require an estimated investment of INR1.9 billion (USD26.9 million).

May-2018. India's Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha stated land acquisition works are underway for the development of Hazaribagh Nawanwan Airport. Mr Sinha said the Ministry of Civil Aviation aims to commission the airport in two years.

Jan-2018. Hazaribagh district administration officials secured an agreement from land owners for the acquisition of land for the development of Hazaribagh Nawanwan Airport. The land owners requested the planned airport be named Nagwan Churchu Airport as a condition of the agreement.

Nov-2017. India's Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha stated land procurement for the development of Hazaribagh Nawanwan Airport is underway, and "Operations will likely start in 1.5 to two years".

Oct-2017. India's Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha stated "After several years of tireless efforts, the cabinet has approved the expansion and development of Nawanwan Airport of Hazaribagh". Mr Sinha added that "245.51 acres of land acquisition" and an estimated expenditure of INR1.9 billion (USD29.7 million) have been approved for the airport development project.
