Chikkamagaluru Airport is a proposed new low-cost airport development by the Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation. The new airport is part of a development strategy by the state, aimed at constructing five new airports in Chikkamagaluru, Karwar, Kushalanagar, Raichur and Vijayapura. The new airport will feature small terminal buildings and runways of 1000m to 2000m and will be operated and maintained by private companies. Construction is expected to cost between INR120 million (USD1.8 million) to INR150 million (USD2.3 million), depending on runway length.
Jan-2020. India's Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola reported five airports in Karnataka are expected to commence operations within the next two years. The airports include Bidar Airport, Bangalore Vijayapura Airport and Chikkamagaluru Airport.
Oct-2015. Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) received approval from Karnataka's Government to develop new low-cost airports at Chikkamagaluru, Karwar, Kushalanagar, Raichur and Vijayapura.
