About
Mosul International Airport serves the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, more than 400km north of Baghdad on the west bank of the Tigris. US forces occupied the airport in 2003, from which time it was divided into two forward operating bases. The airport reopened for commercial use in Dec-2007, after being returned to the Iraqi government.
The airport was destroyed in 2014 and was recaptured by the Iraqi Government in Feb-2017. Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi laid the foundation stone for the Mosul International Airport rehabilitation project in Aug-2022. The airport is expected to be reopened on 10-Jun-2025.
