Mexico City Juarez International Airport
Benito Juárez International Airport serves Mexico City, Mexico's capital and biggest city, the second busiest airport in Latin America by passenger numbers after São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport, and third busiest by cargo traffic after Guarulhos and Bogota El Dorado International Airport. The airport offers connections with over 100 destinations and is served by over 30 airlines. Juárez serves as a hub for Aeromexico and Aeromexico Connect, Interjet, Volaris, Aeromar and Magnicharters. The airport is served by most major North American and Latin American carriers, as well as by Air France, British Airways, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa and SWISS from Europe. Juárez is one of 20 airports operated by state-owned Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA) and is owned by Grupo Aeroportuario de la Ciudad de México.
On 02-Sep-2014, Mexico's President Enrique Pena Nieto announced that the new Mexico City International Airport will be constructed adjacent to Mexico City Juarez International Airport. The new MXN120 billion (USD9.1 billion) airport will have capacity for 120 million passengers p/a and feature six runways upon completion of its second phase, quadrupling Juarez's capacity. Mr Pena Nieto noted the project will one the biggest infrastructure undertakings in Mexico in recent times as well as one of the largest in the world.
Aug-2015. Mexico City Juarez International Airport's (AICM) future will be defined within eight years, according to Mexico Minister of Communications and Transport Gerardo Ruiz Esparza. With the new Mexico City International Airport expected to be operational in 2020, the Mexican government is currently considering possible future uses for the AICM land.
