About

Kuala Namu International Airport opened on 25-Jul-2013 and replaced Medan Polonia Airport. The airport is operated by PT Angkasa Pura II, and stands on the site of a former palm oil plantation. The airport is linked to Medan via a toll road and non-stop rail link, operated by PT Railink.

In Jul-2022, GMR Infrastructure announced Angkasa Pura Aviasi, a JV between GMR Airports Limited and Angkasa Pura II, assumed operational charge of Medan Kualanamu International Airport. GMR Airports won a bid to operate the airport in Nov-2021. It signed a share subscription agreement with PT Angkasa Pura II to operate, expand and improve the airport under a 25 year contract in Dec-2021.
