Griffiss International Airport
Griffiss International Airport is a publicly-owned airport located approximately 2km east of Rome, New York. The airport was opened opened in 1942 and operated as Griffiss Air Force Base until 1995, when it was reopened as a public airport. The airport is an FAA designated test site to “aid in researching the complexities of integrating Unmanned Aircraft Systems into the congested, northeast airspace” until 2017. The airport primarily handles general aviation and military aircraft with no scheduled passenger air services.
