Wizz Air Abu Dhabi
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is a proposed carrier to be based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The start-up is the first Wizz Air carrier established outside of Europe, in partnership with Abu Dhabi Development Holding Company (ADDH). Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is expected to launch operations in Autumn 2020 and will focus on establishing routes to markets in which Wizz Air has existing, high growth operations, namely Central, Eastern and Western Europe, the Indian subcontinent, Middle East and Africa in the long term. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi's fleet will comprise A321neo aircraft. The launch is subject to the agreement and entry into force of definitive documentation with ADDH, the receipt of all necessary internal and external approvals and consents, and the new airline satisfying all regulatory requirements of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority to obtain an air operator's certificate.
On 27-May-2020, Wizz Air CEO Jozsef Varadi confirmed plans to launch Wizz Air Abu Dhabi operations by the end of 2020.
On 28-Jun-2020, UAE's Cabinet approved the the designation of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi as a national carrier of the UAE.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi received an AOC on 18-Oct-2020 from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority.
On 03-Nov-2020, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi MD Kees Van Schaick said the carrier is ready to launch from a regulatory perspective but is delaying the commencement of operations due to the 14 day quarantine period imposed on Abu Dhabi arrivals.
