Commencing operations in 1991, Aserca Airlines is a Venezuelan domestic and regional carrier. Aserca operates over 485 weekly services on a predominantly domestic route network to destinations such as Valencia, Maracaibo, Santo Domingo del Táchira, Las Piedras, Porlamar, Barquisimeto, Barcelona, Maturin and Puerto Ordaz. The airline also operates one international service to the Caribbean island of Aruba. Aserca is based at its primary hub of Caracas Simon Bolivar International Airport with a secondary base at Valencia Arturo Michelena Airport. The airline retired its last Boeing/McDonnell Douglas DC-9 on 28-Jul-2014 following a ruling by the country’s civil aviation authority, INAC that classic models such as the Boeing 727/737-200 and DC-9s must be withdrawn from service by Venezuelan airlines from Nov-2013. Aserca received special dispensation allowing it operate its remaining aircraft until Jul-2014. Aserca now utilise a fleet of MD-87 equipment.
