About

Headquartered in Ixelles, Air Belgium is a Belgian carrier based at Brussels South Charleroi Airport. The airline established itself as a hybrid long haul operator, with services to Asia as well as providing ACMI services for various European carriers including British Airways and LOT Polish Airlines. Air Belgium launched scheduled services on 03-Jun-2018, using A340 aircraft. The carrier was founded on 27-May-2016, with a registered capital of EUR5 million. In Oct-2017, Air Belgium received investment from Belgium's Federal Holding and Investment Company (SFPI-FPIM) and the Walloon investment company (SRIW). Aviation Investment Holding NV holds a majority stake (49.995%) in the airline, with 3T Management & Associates BVBA, Societe Regionale d’Investissement de Wallonie NV, Federale Participatie- en Investeringsmaatschappij NV and Sabena Aerospace NV owning minority stakes. Air Belgium suspended its sole scheduled Brussels Charleroi-Hong Kong service on 28-Sep-2018 and moved to a full ACMI operation. The new carrier is not affiliated with Air Belgium, which ceased air services in late Oct-2000.

In Mar-2022, Air Belgium CEO Niky Terzakis confirmed the Hongyuan Group has acquired a 49% stake in the carrier, with the Chinese group replacing previous non European shareholders.
