Spirit Airlines deploys a multi-faceted network growth plan

Premium Analysis

Spirit Airlines has a multipronged network strategy that includes adding new flights to large US leisure destinations, medium sized markets and some larger origin markets, and new international flights to Latin America.

Unsurprisingly, the airline believes that the framework under construction is paying off as it continues to build out its presence in large leisure destinations, including Orlando, Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and New Orleans.

The airline has added a raft of new medium sized markets from those destinations during the past year, and now Nashville has become the latest new market for Spirit. The airline joins fellow US ULCCs Allegiant and Frontier in the fast growing market and is challenging Nashville's largest airline, Southwest, on all of its new routes from the airport.

Spirit has also made a big international push during the past year largely from Orlando International airport - an investment the airline believes will deliver strong results over the long term.
