Nuance Group signs agreement with Cairns Airport

Zurich (NUANCE GROUP) - Cairns International Airport and The Nuance Group (TNG) have strengthened their long-term partnership by signing a new agreement which includes the development of a state of the art duty-free concept store in the Airport’s International Departure Lounge and which sees the lease term extended to 2011.

The Nuance Group and the Cairns Port Authority have worked together closely since 1995 and the strategic alliance paves the way for a significant makeover of the Airport’s major retail precinct in the International Terminal.

Cairns International Airport, managed by Cairns Port Authority (CPA), is currently the fifth busiest airport in Australia for international passengers and is the gateway to Tropical North Queensland and the Barrier Reef. CPA has committed $250m over the next five years to the redevelopment of the airport.

Mr Brad Geatches, CEO, Cairns Port Authority, said, “It’s an exciting time for Cairns International Airport. Nuance is a strong brand. They are a trusted duty free partner, and our anchor retail store at Cairns International Airport, so we are pleased to be taking this step with them.”

Christian Strang, CEO, The Nuance Group, welcomed the announcement of the new agreement with CPA. “Our partnership with CPA is highly valued and long standing. CPA management has a very forward thinking and sound commercial approach to retailing at the airport which makes this business opportunity very valuable to both parties.”

Nuance is committed to bringing it’s global insights and expertise to the development of the new facilities. The result will be a world class Duty Free store. A great experience for will be a major benefit for passengers using this airport,” Mr Strang said.

“The face of Cairns International Airport will change over the next few years. We have invested much time and money to ensure we give passengers and visitors exactly what they are looking for,” said Mr Geatches.

New fitouts incorporating new merchandising concepts will capitalise on the improved passenger flows, and sight lines to be delivered by the new walk-through store which is being planned for development jointly by CPA and Nuance.

“The pending redevelopment shows our commitment to travel retail and the success of our airport concessionaires, “Mr Geatches said.
