Melbourne Airport soars, as Sydney stumbles

Premium Analysis

Traffic at Australia's major airports continues to show more signs of improvement, with July passenger numbers, particularly for international travel, proving resilient to the general global economic downturn. New Zealand's airports have proved more susceptible to the downturn, with domestic passenger numbers at some airports reporting double-digit declines over much of the first half of 2009. However, Jetstar's launch of domestic operations in New Zealand on 10-Jun-2009, replacing Qantas services, has given fresh impetus to the market.
