Australian domestic discount air fares climb in June, but more pressure ahead
Australian domestic discount fares have increased from extreme lows in April and are now down approximately 20% from base levels in 2003, according to the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BTRE). Discount fares had fallen as much as 40% below the benchmark level in Feb-2009 and Apr-2009, as reflected in Qantas' domestic yields, which fell an average 8.3% in the three months between Feb-2009 and Apr-2009.
