Air New Zealand confirmed it is in discussions with Qantas

Analysis

SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - Air New Zealand confirmed it is in discussions with Qantas over a codeshare agreement on New Zealand-Australia services, as part of its trans-Tasman cost cutting programme.

Air New Zealand plans to cut costs by 10%, including renegotiating Australian ground handling operations.

"We'll see early in the new year Air New Zealand roll out a new strategy on the Tasman which won't see much change from a customer's perspective but...the way we operate the airline from back of house will change quite substantially" stated Ralph Norris.
