CAPA releases monthly airline traffic data product

Press Release

(Sydney: 19 February 2007) Centre for Asia

Pacific Aviation (CAPA) is pleased to announce the official launch of its CAPA

DATA monthly airline traffic database. Covering data from over 100 full service

and low cost carriers worldwide, the new service is the most comprehensive and

up-to-date of its kind.

"The fact that CAPA DATA includes data from carriers not included in the established industry associations' data sets, including Chinese airlines, as well as many LCCs, makes it a very useful analysis tool. Airlines and airports, as well as their suppliers and advisors should access this unique service", said CAPA Executive Chairman, Peter Harbison.

Exclusive CAPA analysis of the latest results is included every month, highlighting the hot spots, the key trends, and - most importantly - the outlook for demand going forward. CAPA DATA is now available in Excel format, featuring different global regions each month, giving subscribers the ability to manipulate the data.

CAPA DATA also contains a graphing tool, to assist analysis of trends of carrier traffic via a visual presentation. Any two carriers' traffic from within a region can be analysed against each other and results can be exported to enhance industry reports and presentations.

"Most importantly, CAPA DATA is right up to date. Published on or around the 14th of each month, it includes the latest data for the previous month, enabling subscribers to pick up trends ultra early", concluded Mr Harbison.

About CAPA DATA

CAPA DATA includes a PDF report and an excel spreadsheet each month covering a different region's traffic, by carrier. The excel spreadsheet covers:

  • Pax: The number of revenue passengers carried by an airline in a month;
  • RPKs: Revenue passenger kilometres, which are a measure of demand (revenue passengers times the distance flown);
  • ASKs: Available seat kilometres, which are a measure of supply (that is, the capacity, or seats an airline operates over its network);
  • LFs: Load factors - a measure of capacity utilisation (that is, how full the aircraft are operating, calculated by dividing RPKs by ASKs);

The PDF analysis report compiles data from a number of sources, including the International Air Transport Association, the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines, the Association of European Airlines, the Air Transport Association (US), the European Low Fares Airlines Association, various Departments of Transportation, as well as Airports Council International and various airport operators. Using a range of sources, unique perspectives become possible.
