About

Chinchero Cusco International Airport is an airport project located near Cusco, Peru. The airport is being constructed as demand for nearby Velasco Astete Airport has steadily increased. Chinchero Cusco International Airport will replace Velasco Astete Airport as the primary airport in the region. Construction commenced in early 2017. Kuntur Wasi secured the development contract for the project. However, the Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communications agreed to cancel the tender, with the government issuing a public tender for the development. A South Korean consortium led by Korea Airports Corporation (KAC) secured the tender in Jul-2019.

Apr-2024. Peru's Ministry of Transport awarded the Natividad de Chinchero Consortium an advance payment of PEN40 million (USD10.82 million) to accelerate the construction of Chinchero Cusco International Airport.

Oct-2023. Korea Airports Corporation (KAC) announced it secured a KRW34 billion (USD25.2 million) contract from Peru's Government to provide consulting services for the operation and management, and successful commissioning, of Chinchero Cusco International Airport for a three year period. KAC will assist the airport, expected to commence operation in 2026, to establish an operation plan, secure necessary certifications and procure equipment. KAC also signed an MoU with Peruvian Airports and Commercial Aviation Corporation (CORPAC) on 28-Sep-2023 to assist CORPAC to improve corporate management, research and technological innovation for the operation of airports.

Jul-2023. Peru's Government announced construction of Chinchero Cusco International Airport's control tower and runway will commence in Sep-2023.

Feb-2023. Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications announced works to develop a 4000m x 45m runway and air traffic control (ATC) tower at Chinchero Cusco International Airport will commence in Aug-2023.
