About
Amazon Prime Air was founded as a virtual cargo carrier by Amazon Technologies Inc. The company was initially a logistics drone programme, with Amazon planning to deliver packages using custom unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). However, FAA regulations regarding commercial UAV developments forced Amazon to review the Prime Air programme and led to the establishment of a virtual cargo carrier. Amazon Technologies rebranded Prime Air as Amazon Air, returning to its initial drone programme.
