Background

Zinc Aviation founder Peter Kelly previously confirmed it sought AUD100 million in investment and AUD100 million in debt, positioning Western Sydney International Airport as enabling “unconstrained access” to the Sydney market for a proposed ULCC.1 The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said Zinc and Koala Airlines could improve consumer outcomes via greater choice and more competitive fares, although it cautioned both faced material execution and regulatory hurdles.2 Mr Kelly later revised Zinc’s plan to target a 2028 launch using A320ceos instead of A321neos, requiring a substantial rework of its financial model.3
