WA Government 'determined to expand and enhance our aviation connections': Tourism Minister
Western Australia's (WA) Minister of Tourism Reece Whitby, speaking at Routes Asia 2025, stated (25-Mar-2025) the WA government is "determined to expand and enhance our aviation connections" across intra state, domestic and international routes. Mr Whitby said there is "big potential for further expansion" of aviation in the state. He noted that Perth Airport is set to become Qantas' second largest international hub in Australia, which is expected to help transform Perth and WA into an important hub for travel and trade. He also noted that WA's economy is "on a rapid course of diversification", which will elevate Perth as a destination.
Background ✨
Perth Airport has been strengthening its role as a key aviation hub due to its strategic location and efforts to enhance international connectivity. Western Australia's Government and Perth Airport have been investing heavily, including a AUD3 billion terminal and runway infrastructure project, to support new routes and partnerships with airlines in key markets such as China, India, and South Korea1 2. This aligns with Qantas' plans to expand Perth as its second largest international hub and explore routes to Europe and Asia3.
