Virgin Blue and Emirates confirm plans to end trans-Tasman codeshare

Virgin Blue and Emirates confirmed they are ending their trans-Tasman codeshare agreement within the next six months, with their frequent flyer agreement expected to end by the end of 1Q2011 (The Australian, 03-Sep-2010). However, the two are retaining their interline agreement. Virgin stated the codeshare agreement was being cancelled as its new early morning departure for V Australia no longer matched Emirates' services. The move also comes after Virgin announced a partnership agreement with Etihad.
